Artist Profile

Janice Tanton.

Janice Tanton

Janice Tanton continues to oversee her own company and from 1996 to 2006 was the Creative Director of Country Home Candle, developing the brand worldwide and providing illustration for numerous products. Janice has represented and published many Canadian artists, championing their intellectual property rights, and continues to be an advocate in entrepreneurial and business export issues for women.

Her entrepreneurial success and vision led to an invitation as a delegate to the first ever Businesswomen's Summit between Canada and the U.S., in 1999, as well as a nomination for the Rotman Woman Entrepreneur of the Year Award. She is a member of the Society of Tempera Painters, the Organization of Women in International Trade (OWIT), and WEC and has participated on Team Canada Trade and Export missions to the United States and virtual trade missions to Argentina.

Following the rapid growth of her business, Janice chose to apply her management skills to operating a heritage resort in Ontario. Since moving with her family to Canmore, Alberta in February of 2005, Janice has continued her lifelong interest in performance sport horses and horse breeding. In 2005 she assumed the role of Sale Administrator for the Canadian Warmblood Horse Breeders' Association Fall Classic Breeders' Sale.

Today, Janice brings a wealth of business, design, and leadership experience to her role as Program Production Manager for Aboriginal Leadership and Management at The Banff Centre in Banff, Alberta. Janice continues to provide mentoring and instruction to Canadian artists and youth through college and community programs. She is also continuing her own academic enrichment in the area of Indigenous Studies and has a keen interest in examining how practice in the arts, especially drawing, can influence humanity and develop better thought processes.

Janice remains an active volunteer in her community. She is also a CSIA Ski Instructor, taking every opportunity to enjoy the great outdoor mountain experiences of hiking, skiing and mountain biking with her husband and three young children.
